Required for ChatGPT
The target_countries attribute specifies which countries a product can be sold to.
This field is a critical eligibility and filtering signal for ChatGPT Shopping.
It allows AI systems to determine:
- where a product is legally available,
- whether it can be shown to users in a given location,
- which regional pricing, availability, and shipping rules apply.
Only products with valid target countries can be surfaced in ChatGPT commerce experiences.
When to use
You must provide this field for every product submitted to ChatGPT Shopping.
Use it to list:
- the countries you actively ship to,
- or the regions where checkout and fulfillment are supported.
If a product is not available in a country, do not include it in this list.
The first country in the list is treated as the primary market by ChatGPT.
Format
- Type: List (comma-separated)
- Accepted format: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes
- Repeated field: No
- Schema.org property: Not applicable (AI-only field)
Examples:
| Format | Example |
|---|---|
| CSV / TXT feed | target_countries: US, CA, GB |
| Single-country | target_countries: FR |
| XML feed | <target_countries>DE</target_countries> |
Minimum requirements
- Provide at least one valid ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
- Use upper-case, two-letter country codes only.
- Separate multiple countries with commas.
- Do not use country names (e.g. “United States”).
- Do not include unsupported or restricted regions.
SEO / AI Tip
target_countries directly influences who can see your products in ChatGPT.
It works in combination with:
[store_country]to establish seller origin,[shipping_price]to assess delivery feasibility,[geo_price]and[geo_availability]for regional overrides.
A misconfigured or missing value can silently exclude products from AI-driven discovery.
