Optional for each product
The shipping_weight attribute specifies the weight used to calculate shipping costs in Merchant Center.
This is particularly important when using carrier-calculated rates or shipping weight tables.
If the package weight exceeds supported limits, use the shipping_label attribute instead to configure special rates.
When to use
- When shipping cost calculations in Merchant Center are based on weight.
- For carrier-calculated rates or weight-based shipping tables.
- To ensure accurate shipping costs, especially for heavy or bulky items.
If your product requires freight or LTL (Less Than Truckload) shipping, configure these separately using shipping labels and tables.
Format
- Type: Number plus unit.
- Supported units:
lb,oz,g,kg - Limits:
- Imperial: 0–2000 lb
- Metric: 0–1000 kg
- Decimals: Supported (e.g.,
1.25 kg) - Repeated field: No
Formatting examples:
| File format | Example value |
|---|---|
| Text feed | 3 kg |
| XML feed | <g:shipping_weight>3 kg</g:shipping_weight> |
Minimum requirements
- Use actual shipping weight (including packaging).
- Pair with dimensions (
shipping_length,shipping_width,shipping_height) if using carrier rates that consider volumetric weight. - Avoid exceeding carrier limits — use
shipping_labelfor oversized/freight items.
Products with invalid formats or exceeding limits will be disapproved.
