The description attribute is used to describe your product’s features, specifications, and appearance. A clear, accurate description helps users and Google better understand what you’re selling.




When to use

Use [structured_description] for generative AI content or [description] for regular text.

  • [description] is plain text without sub-attributes.
  • [structured_description] includes:
    • [digital_source_type] (Optional): default or trained_algorithmic_media
    • [content] (Required): Actual description text

  • Type: String (Unicode characters; ASCII recommended)
  • Limits:
    • [description]: 1–5,000 characters
    • [structured_description][content]: 1–5,000 characters

Note: If your description exceeds the character limit, it will be truncated.

  • Describe only the product itself
  • Use correct grammar and spelling
  • Stick to the target language and avoid foreign characters unless well-known
  • Submit a description for each product
  • Don’t include links, promotional language, comparisons or pricing info
  • Avoid category references and ALL CAPS
  • Don’t describe other products or your business history



SEO Tip

Include the most relevant product details within the first 160–500 characters for maximum visibility. Use keywords naturally and prioritize what customers need to know first.
