Optional for most products — Required for preorders/backorders (Google & ChatGPT)
The availability_date attribute tells customers when a preordered or backordered product will ship.
If your product’s availability attribute is set to preorder or backorder, you must include an availability date (up to 1 year in the future).
This date should also be shown clearly on your product’s landing page.
When to use
- Required when:
availability=preorderavailability=backorder
- Optional for other products to display an expected ship date.
- Can be used for:
- Seasonal stock arrivals
- Special edition product launches
- Supply chain delays
Format
- Type: Date, time, and time zone (ISO 8601)
- Format:
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm[±hhmm]orYYYY-MM-DDThh:mmZ - Limits: 1–25 characters
- Repeated field: No
Formatting examples:
| File format | Example value |
|---|---|
| Text feed | 2025-11-25T13:00-0500 |
| XML feed | <g:availability_date>2025-11-25T13:00-0500</g:availability_date> |
Minimum requirements
- Must be provided if product is on preorder or backorder.
- Date must be no more than 1 year in the future.
- Show the same date clearly on the product landing page.
- Do not submit a date range — only a single date/time.
If exact date is unknown, submit an estimated date (e.g.,
2025-05-01T00:00-0000).
Best practices
- Always include time and time zone to avoid confusion.
- Update the date as soon as an accurate shipping estimate is available.
- For marketing campaigns, align availability dates with promotions and PR launches.
